RICHARDSON, Texas – The City of Sugar Land was honored with the John Patton Community Project Award from the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) for its Integrated Stormwater Management Model (iSWMM) designed by Halff Associates.
The award recognizes a Texas community that implements flood loss mitigation and public safety practices.
iSWMM connects to 28 rain/stream gauges across the city that report real-time information, which creates instantaneous ponding maps that include street ponding depths. The system gives the public reliable information throughout Sugar Land and allows the City to send notifications about intensifying street ponding, flooding and potential street closures. Other benefits include assisting in evacuation routes, coordinating hazard mitigation plans, and evaluating drainage infrastructure to better target improvement areas.
Halff has won 10 project awards in 2022 after accumulating a record-breaking 16 awards in 2021.
