Retired Halff Employee T. Lynn Lovell Honored as TTU Distinguished Engineer

May 2, 2024

RICHARDSON, Texas — Retired Halff employee T. Lynn Lovell was honored as a Distinguished Engineer by the Texas Tech University Whitacre College of Engineering. Lovell is the first Halff employee to ever be inducted into the prestigious group.

Lovell joined Halff in 1981, and in just five months with the firm, he was responsible for the launch of a Fort Worth office with a staff of five. Today, the Fort Worth office has more than 130 employees and remains a thriving part of Halff’s business. A conference room in the Fort Worth office is named in his honor.

A founding father of Halff’s Water Resources practice, Lovell managed several major projects during his tenure. He served as project manager for the largest flood-related, basin-wide study in Texas with his work for the Lower Colorado River Authority. He also provided a unique and innovative water supply and demand balance study for 13,000 square miles of the Rio San Juan watershed for the Mexico National Commission.

As an accomplished civil engineer, Lovell has received multiple awards, including the prestigious Roy D. Sedwick Award from the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA). Other honors include the Professional Service Award (ASCE Texas), the William C. Ackerman Medal for Excellence in Water Management (AWRA), Distinguished Engineer of the Foundation (Texas Engineering Foundation), Pioneer Award (TFMA), the Years of Service Award (ASCE Fort Worth) and the Professional Engineer for over 50 Years award (TBPELS).

The Distinguished Engineer Award was established during the 1966–1967 academic year to recognize the most outstanding former students of the Whitacre College of Engineering. Recipients of the award must be distinguished in their profession, be an inspiration to their peers and have demonstrated a continuing interest in areas outside the field of engineering.
