Honoring Dr. Halff’s Legacy of Investing in the Next Generation

July 31, 2025

July 31st is National Intern Day, and it’s the perfect chance to celebrate the bright minds who’ve joined us this summer. Our founder, Dr. Albert H. Halff, set the example by championing the development of young professionals and that spirit still guides us today.

Advocate For Young Professionals

Dr. Halff was not only a visionary engineer and business leader, but a tireless advocate for developing young professionals. He believed that investing in people’s early careers was one of the most important things Halff could do.

As Halff marks its 75th anniversary, we’re reminded that our foundation is built on more than engineering and innovation. It’s built on people, especially the next generation of professionals.

2025 summer interns from The Woodlands and Houston offices visited Halff’s Two Step Boulevard project in Montgomery County.

Halff’s BLUEprints Internship Program

What made Dr. Halff’s approach special wasn’t just that he mentored people but that he trusted them. He gave young professionals real responsibility and believed in letting them take ownership of their work, take pride in the outcome and learn from their mistakes.

This philosophy has helped shape Halff’s new BLUEprints internship program. BLUEprints invites young talent to build a future at Halff and welcomes fresh energy, encourages big ideas and offers a future full of possibilities.

Interns at Halff aren’t asked to sit on the sidelines but are immersed in the industry through client meetings, brainstorming sessions, site visits and more.

“Learning is a lifelong, transformative journey, and there’s no greater teacher than real-world experience,” says Halff’s Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition Denise Mitchell. “It’s a true privilege to contribute to that journey by supporting and empowering students during such a pivotal chapter of their lives.”

A Lasting Impact on Future Generations

Many of Halff’s interns return for multiple summers and secure a full time role. A number of previous interns now lead teams of their own today!

“At Halff, we’re proud to be a company that prioritizes meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities, ones that not only deepen students’ understanding of our industry but also help ignite their true passions and shape the path toward their future careers,” says Campus Recruiter Megan Gallego.

As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we’re not just looking back, we’re looking forward. There’s no better way to secure the future of our industry and communities than by investing in the people who will shape what comes next.

“Whether the impact we make is big or small, knowing we’ve played a role in their growth is what makes leading the internship program so incredibly rewarding and meaningful,” says Denise.

Happy National Intern Day to all our interns! Here’s to 75 years of building people, building careers and building a better future.
