RICHARDSON, Texas – Halff Associates, Inc. (Halff), one of the nation’s leading engineering/architecture consulting firms, announces today that the firm has hired W.J. “Bud” Melton to our Richardson office. Bud will help foster new dimensions in active-transportation infrastructure planning and design. He is an urban designer and lifelong advocate for accommodating active, healthy lifestyles. His experience includes development of a wide variety of active transportation and mobility networks – guiding feasibility, alignment, right of way and design decisions for sidewalks, trails, bikeways and transit-oriented connections throughout the range of rural, suburban and urban transects.
Bud has more than 50 years’ experience working with the public as a business owner and general manager; a presenter, educator, and researcher; and he adds a lifetime of bicycling experience. He is considered a regional thought leader on issues related to mobility, economic development, environmental preservation and enhancements, and green infrastructure as they relate to urban design and architecture. For more than 30 years, he has participated in or organized workshops and training sessions related to sustainable development practices and solutions.
Bud is a member of the American Planning Association, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, the Urban Land Institute, and is an advisor to active mobility planning and design efforts throughout Texas and beyond. He serves on several non-profit boards including as Vice President Issues for the Greater Dallas Planning Council; trustee for Texas Trees Foundation; and trustee for the Deep Ellum Foundation.
